Contemporary Turkish Architecture 1995–2025 | Marwood Proud to Support Gürkan Akay’s Landmark Publication

April 20, 2026

The launch of TANIK – Contemporary Turkish Architecture Through an Architect's Eye and a Photographer's Lens (1995–2025) by architect and photography artist Gürkan Akay took place at Aura Istanbul. Co-sponsored by MARWOOD, AXALTA AURA and YEM Kitabevi, the event celebrated three decades of architectural documentation and Aura Istanbul hosted an accompanying exhibition for one week, presenting a curated selection from the book.

The evening opened with a speech by Seda Altan, followed by a panel of distinguished voices from Turkey's architecture and design world. Speakers including Mesut Kaya, foreword contributors Nevzat Sayın, Murat Germen, and Deniz Aslan, alongside Gürkan Akay himself, shared their reflections on his work and its significance for Turkish architectural history. The conversation gave way to an evening of music and dinner, bringing the night to a warm and memorable close.

MARWOOD Genel Müdürü Mehmet Tamer Ünlü, kitabın ön sözünde bu iş birliğinin anlamını şöyle ifade etti:

In his foreword contribution, Marwood CEO Mehmet Tamer Ünlü wrote:

"Gürkan Akay holds an important place in Marwood's journey of transformation. Seeing ourselves through the eyes of a true professional added more strength to our path than we had imagined. Our contribution to this book is a simple expression of our respect for his labor, his art, and the testimony he has accumulated over the years."

With over 2,500 projects documented for more than 400 architects and designers, Gürkan Akay's archive stands as one of the most comprehensive visual records of contemporary Turkish architecture. Published by YEM Yayın, TANIK is now a permanent part of Turkey's architectural literature and Marwood is proud to have played a role in bringing it to life.
